Sports Injury

3.5 million children experience an injury annually playing organized sports, at the playground, or near home. Of those, the majority occur in those 14 and younger with the highest rates occurring in sports that involve contacts and collisions. By far, the most common injuries experiences are sprains and strains, followed by fractures, contusion / abrasions, and lacerations. These injuries tend to sideline the participant from their activity and possibly from school for at least several weeks. Approximately 1 million adults experience a sports injury annually with the majority occurring while playing basketball, football, and soccer. These types of injuries may have larger repercussions for adults as it may impact their work-related duties and overall health.
